The bad things

"When I looked at you, my life made sense. Even the bad things made sense. They were necessary to make you possible."
— Jonathan Safran Foer

A lot of people say that they "don't believe in regrets". I don't know if I agree. What I mean to say is that I do have regrets. If there were no such thing as regret, then regret wouldn't exist. Yet it does.

I understand what those people are saying, though. They don't regret what they have done in the past, however reprehensible or cowardly or embarrassing, because if those things hadn't happened, they wouldn't be where they are now. They wouldn't have come across the job they love, they wouldn't have met and fallen in love with their spouse, their children would not have been born.

I think we can do both. We can regret (which is not a pleasant or comfortable feeling, but useful for self-reflection) yet realise that the bad things that have happened in our lives make sense. After the storm, the clouds part and the sun shines through. Always.

After the jump... one of the most raw, achingly beautiful songs I have ever heard.

"I regret that it takes a life to learn how to live."
— Jonathan Safran Foer

And there will come a time you'll see, with no more tears and love will not break your heart but dismiss your fears.

Beautiful. Thank you for the reminder :)
